چکیده

Results There were clear differences in blood flow patterns between healthy volunteers and TGA patients in both the pulmonary trunk and the aorta. In healthy volunteers, flow was laminar, parabolic in the pulmonary trunk and showed left helical flow pattern in the aorta. In TGA patients we observed opposite flow patterns with predominant parabolic flow in the aorta but helical flow and vortex formation in the pulmonary trunk. Conclusions There are abnormal flow profiles in the aorta and pulmonary trunk in TGA patients. The data of this study provides evidence that differences in left and right ventricular cardio-mechanics directly translate into different flow patterns.

Accuracy and Inter observer variability of blood flow quantification on 4D flow MRI in adult with transposition of the great arteries corrected by arterial switch

Background 4D flow magnetic resonance imaging appears as a reliable tool for blood flow quantification. However, in patients with transposition of the great arteries corrected by arterial switch, the choice of a high velocity encoding (venc) to avoid velocity aliasing due to pulmonary stenosis, could decrease the accuracy of blood flow quantification in vessels such as superior or inferior vena...

Hemodynamic evaluation in patients with transposition of the great arteries after the arterial switch operation: 4D flow and 2D phase contrast cardiovascular magnetic resonance compared with Doppler echocardiography

BACKGROUND Peak velocity measurements are used to evaluate the significance of stenosis in patients with transposition of the great arteries after the arterial switch operation (TGA after ASO). 4D flow cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) provides 3-directional velocity encoding and full volumetric coverage of the great arteries and may thus improve the hemodynamic evaluation in these patien...

Pacemaker laser lead extraction and reimplantation of dual-chamber implantable cardioverter defibrillator via Mustard baffle in complete transposition of great arteries.

We present a case of a complicated lead extraction and reimplantation of an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) in a young woman with complete transposition of great arteries (CTGA), a cyanotic congenital heart defect in which the aorta and the pulmonary trunk are transposed. The malformation results in two parallel circulations, whereby the left ventricle is attached to the pulmonary ...

Is the Lecompte technique the last word on transposition of the great arteries repair for all patients? A magnetic resonance imaging study including a spiral technique two decades postoperatively.

OBJECTIVES To compare the Lecompte technique and the spiral anastomosis (complete anatomic correction) two decades after arterial switch operation (ASO). METHODS Nine patients after primary ASO with Lecompte and 6 selected patients after spiral anastomosis were evaluated 20.8 ± 2.1 years after ASO versus matched controls. Blood flow dynamics and flow profiles (e.g. vorticity, helicity) in the...

Atlas-based analysis of 4D flow CMR: Automated vessel segmentation and flow quantification

BACKGROUND Flow volume quantification in the great thoracic vessels is used in the assessment of several cardiovascular diseases. Clinically, it is often based on semi-automatic segmentation of a vessel throughout the cardiac cycle in 2D cine phase-contrast Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CMR) images. Three-dimensional (3D), time-resolved phase-contrast CMR with three-directional velocity en...
